Mumbai:
Here’s an app that promises to make the
academic life of university students a tad easier. Students of Mumbai University will
now get their exam schedule, hall-tickets, eligibility forms, syllabus and
other information on their cellphones.
The university on Friday launched its
mobile application —MUM e-Suvidha—during a meeting of college principals. The
app can be used by all existing students from affiliated colleges having a
permanent registration number (PRN). A university official claimed that more
than 6 lakh students are expected to benefit from the app.
The app will also give students updated
information regarding examinations, admissions, convocation and other events.
It will also allow students to download their hall tickets, exam form,
applications for revaluation and photocopies of answer sheets. Students will
also get push notifications.
In another development, the university will
soon set up a fee revision committee to look into demands of colleges for a fee
hike. A principal pointed out that the fees had remained constant for a decade,
even for self-financed courses like BMM, BMS, BAF and BBI. Following the
guidelines laid down in the Maharashtra Public Universities Act of 2016, the
committee will be formed to decide on the fee structure for the 2019-20
academic session, said vice-chancellor Suhas Pednekar in the meeting. The
committee will have a retired vice-chancellor as chairperson besides finance
and legal experts.
Pednekar also urged colleges to donate
funds for flood-hit Kerala. He asked colleges to donate generously for relief
effort and asked department heads of the university to donate a day’s salary
for flood-relief initiatives.
The university also decided to set up
incubation centres to promote research work in line with the research parks at
IITs.
