Mumbai:
A day before the beginning of the third-year BCom exams,
Mumbai University (MU) informed city colleges that students will have to take
two of their six papers at their own colleges. After appearing for four papers
at the exam centres, the students will have to go back to their own colleges to
take the remaining papers.
This change was not even mentioned in the hall tickets.
The colleges are now reaching out to students to inform them about this change.
Over 67,000 students are appearing for the TY BCom semester V exams which
started on Wednesday.
A college principal said they got the circular on Tuesday
evening. “Earlier, we were told MU’s academic council had decided the applied
component papers would be decentralised for assessment. It was decided these papers
would be assessed offline at the college level. But we were not told that
students will have to appear for the exams at their own colleges. We are now
reaching out to the students through our mailing groups,” the principal added.
Senate member Pradeep Sawant said the decision to
decentralise assessment was taken in September but MU waited for the eleventh
hour to release the circular.
