70% of BCom papers assessed, Mumbai University hopes to announce results on time

BCom answer scripts have been assessed in less than 25 days. Of 2.48 lakh
answer scripts, teachers from affiliated colleges assessed 1.82 lakh papers
till Wednesday, despite the Diwali
(http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Diwali) vacation.
The university,
for the first time, asked colleges to assess more papers this semester, if they
had not completed their quota in the summer exam. MU even took an undertaking
to this effect from defaulting colleges. Students, therefore, will benefit from
early results this semester.
A teacher said
MU refused to release CAP (centralised assessment process) certificates for a
few colleges that did not participate in the assessment process for the summer
exam. "Action was taken against a few colleges, therefore, most of them
toed the line this exam," said the teacher. The certificate was also made
mandatory for several sanctions from the university.
Colleges were
not allowed to increase their divisions, start new courses and enrolment of
students was put on hold, said an official. B.Com has the highest number of
students taking the university exam. The number of students enrolled in final
year is likely to decline as many leading colleges have become autonomous and
the burden on MU will decrease in the next few years, said a teacher.
